My Little Bowler
I took Lucas bowling for the first time a few weeks ago, one, to try it out, and two, as something to do inside to get out of this incredibly hot Houston summer. He really enjoyed getting on the "special" bowling shoes and using the "special" bowling ball. He acutally did quite well considering it was his first time and even a child's bowling ball is pretty heavy. Of course they did put up the bumpers for him, so every shot was a success! He bowled two rounds and then he was ready for something else.
On Monday when I went with Jonah to the doctor's office my sister, who happened to be in town passing through, took Lucas bowling for the morning. They had a great time she said and was able to get a few fun pictures. Enjoy!

Nine Months...Little Jonah
Height: 29" which consistently puts him in the 75% (I better start a clothing, shoes, and grocery savings account now.)
Weight: 20.8 lbs
Head Circumference: 18.5" (80%...doctor said it is genetic... I guess we have to track down who in the family has a big head.)
He is very close to crawling and once that starts it is "a whole new ball game" for all of us, especially Lucas! He continues to be a very happy baby and a joy to be around.

Vacation Bible School
Every morning they would all meet as a class "Crawfish" (Lucas' class) and sing and listen to a bible story acted out with puppets. They would then rotate to four different "stations": Snack (a very important one!), Missions, Crafts, Games, and Drama. At the end of the time all the classes would gather together again and sing and revisit the bible story of the day. I was very proud of Lucas he received all his "Bible Buddies" which meant that he recited part of this bible verse every day, "As for God his way is perfect the word of the Lord is flawless, he is a shield for all who take refugee in him. For who is our God except the Lord and who is our Rock except our God. It is he who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect." Psalm 18:30-32. It is particularly heart warming to see him continue to sing the VBS songs and do the hand motions in the car (we have the CD in the car and have been listening to it non-stop!) He even asked today, so when is VBS again? I don't think he quite understood why he had to wait a whole year for VBS again.
Did I mention that I am going to help coordinate VBS next year?? Be careful, I may just be knocking on your door to help....
(Check out my friends Hilary's blog for some more pics of VBS)

Elder Ordination
Ryan was recently ordained as an "Elder" in our church (Christ the King Presbyterian Church). We are very excited that Ryan was asked to become an elder. He had to go through a quite a process of both an extensive written exam and oral interview. (Finally, his Religion/Government major may have paid off!) What does an Elder do one might ask? In the Presbyterian denomination the Elders are part of the "Session" which is the ruling body of the church. The Session helps make decisions for the church, for example: budget, missions, outreach, facility and worship.
We feel it is quite a privilege to serve our church in this way and look forward to seeing how the Lord is going to work in our lives through this opportunity.

Jonah Frederick-8 months
Little Jonah at eight months. He is definitely not an infant anymore. We are doing a little better sleeping through the night and taking naps during the day. I also just noticed yesterday that he is cutting his first tooth. (Maybe that explains a little of his general fussy behavior? Who knows??) My, my how quickly the time goes by!!
Movie Matinee

Lucas and I enjoyed our first "Mother-Son" date to the movies on Saturday.(We had taken our very first "Mother-Son" date a few weeks ago to the Mad Potter to paint some pottery and then to ice cream!) Since it has been incredibly hot in Houston these days we decided it might be a great time to sit in an air conditioned movie theater. I had really wanted to take Lucas to see the movie and Ryan said it would gladly stay home while Jonah napped to get some work done... or watch U2 concert footage (they just started their new 360 tour in Europe.)
The movie was wonderful and did not disappoint! I am not sure how much Lucas actually understood or if he really enjoyed the movie. He was very quite during the film and just sat on my lap watching. (Yes, my almost 4 year old sat on my lap the entire movie... how wonderful was that!) When I asked him several times if he was o.k. he would respond, "yes, mama." However, when Ryan asked him about the movie when we got home he didn't have a lot to say and his favorite part was when the police and ambulance came (not exactly the highlights of the movie.)
Nevertheless, we enjoyed spending time together eating popcorn and I got a little cuddle time with my big boy!!
